Whatwouldyoudointhewakeofaglobalcatastrophe?Howwouldyoufindfood?Water?Shelter?TheColonyisacontrolledexperimenttoseeexactlywhatitwouldtaketosurviveandrebuildunderthesecircumstances.For10weeks,agroupof10volunteers,whosebackgroundsandexpertiserepresentacross-sectionofmodernsociety,areisolatedinanurbanenvironmentoutsideLosAngelesandtaskedwithcreatingalivablesociety.Withnoelectricityfromthegrid,norunningwaterandnomunicationwiththeoutsideworld,allthevolunteershavetoworkwitharetheirskillsandwhatevertoolsandsuppliestheycanscavengefromtheirsurroundings.Expertsfromthefieldsofhomelandsecurity,engineeringandpsychologyhavehelpeddesigntheworldofTheColonytoreflectelementsfrombothreal-lifedisastersandmodelsofwhatthefuturecouldlooklikeafteraglobalviraloutbreak.Overthecourseofthe10-weekexperiment,theColonistsmustworktogethertobuildthenecessitiesofsurvival,suchasawater-filtrationsystem,abatterybankthatpoweredtheirelectricity,asolarcooker,ashowersystemandagreenhouse–andevensomeniceties(acoffeemaker!).

看完之后我就想起《行尸走肉》里的一些剧情。末世之下，人面临的最大威胁还是人，团体内部各种背景，各种性格，各种人品的成员都有，难免产生矛盾，产生小团体，外部的人则有各种不确定因素，有渴望加入的，有可以合作的，有能够提供帮助的，也有带来威胁的。除了面临基本的生存问题，还有如何释放情绪，如何化解矛盾，如何重拾信仰，毕竟末世之下的人依然还是人。

片中为了节目效果肯定是有剧情安排，安排了特定职业的成员，指定了仓库这个环境，并提供了其他各种工具和装备。只是不知道为什么食物短缺，却没有安排扩大土地种植农作物的剧情，既然取水困难，为什么没有引水或者打井相关的剧情，反而是建了浴室和健身房，养鸡养羊稍微提了一下也再无后文了，估计是拍不下去了吧，毕竟仓库这个环境，鸡养的饲料饮水都无法解决，片中这帮人对外界极其恐惧也不能去放养。

以前我自己幻想的末世情况下则是要在工业产品(包括食品)被消耗完之前，尽快回到农村，掌握种植，养殖，渔猎，采集野果野菜中草药，驯养牛马，制造简单工具，等等生存技能，毕竟像片中出现的蓄电池是有寿命的，电动工具则完全是消耗品，太阳能电池板，发电机也是不可再生的，虽然木柴气化炉解决了部分能源问题，但润滑油是消耗品且不可再生产，车辆零部件是消耗品也无法再生产，所以《行尸走肉》中随着时间的推移，交通工具由汽车摩托车变畜力，武器也从枪械变成了冷兵器。
